That’s where he learned the values of hard work, community, and perseverance. He began his career as a public school teacher, dedicating himself to helping young people succeed – and saw firsthand how government policies can either lift families up or leave them behind. Dave knows what it takes to roll up your sleeves to solve real problems.

For decades, Dave has served the people of Colorado in nearly every capacity he could: as a classroom teacher, union leader, college professor, state legislator, and State Treasurer. Through it all, his mission has remained the same – to fight for working families, deliver real results, and make government work for those who need it most. In the classroom, Dave stood up for students and fellow educators. As a union leader, he fought for fair wages and respect on the job. In the State Legislature, he built bridges across party lines to improve public schools, expand access to affordable health care, and balance Colorado’s budget during times of deep political division.

As Colorado’s State Treasurer, Dave brought integrity and innovation to the job. He helped launch new retirement savings programs so every worker has a chance at security later in life, supported small businesses through economic recovery efforts, and ensured that taxpayer dollars were invested wisely and transparently.

Now, Dave’s running for Congress because he believes Washington needs more leaders who listen before they speak, build coalitions instead of stoking division, and stay focused on delivering results that matter.
